10 July Sunday evening            Welcome Dinner            MOKSA restaurant                   
An exquisite meal set upon anagama-fired ware at the restaurant of director Hillary Kane’s husband.  A relaxed evening in which participants can get to know one another and share their stories and intentions for being here.  Dessert will be served with a double slideshow given by Brian Kakas and Eva Champagne, as an orientation to each as artists and makers, followed by a review of the workshop schedule and a general fanning of the fires of enthusiasm!

11 July: Monday                   Foundation: Bricks and Blocks                   GCAC

9am Slide Talk: History of soda firing outlining various kiln designs / firing methods
9:30-12noon: Laying Block foundation and floor bricks

Lunch: family style in Gaya CAC mezzanine

1Pm -4pm continued floor brick laying (herring bone pattern), Arch Placement and Discussion about Catenary Arches – form finding/construction/flame currents

Bricks:  all pre-made and green; ready to be tailored into the size and shapes of our specificities.

12 July: Tuesday                 Brick Stacking and Cutting                      GCAC

9am-12 noon & 1pm-4pm:      Brick Laying onto arch form.

Bricks:  all pre-made and green; ready to be tailored into the size and shapes of our specificities.

13 July: Wednesday    Brick Laying & Cutting                             GCAC   

9am-12 noon            Continued Arch Brick Laying, Front and rear wall brick laying including burner ports, bagwall placement

1pm-4pm                 Continued Brick Laying of walls and Chimney

14 July: Thursday                   Brick Laying and Framing                     GCAC

9am-9:30                     Slide talk: examples of historical and contemporary artist and artworks utilizing soda/salt firing methods and kilns.

9:30am-12noon           mud mixing / stacking brick for chimney

Lunch: family style in Gaya CAC mezzanine

1pm-4pm                Completion of arch from morning activities and finish stacking front + rear walls and chimney completion.  Then adding 1”insulation and castable layer to exterior roof

15 July: Friday                    Castable Arch and Kiln Lining                   GCAC

9am -12pm               Arch Plugs / stoke hole castable construction
                                    Discussion about frame: material choices and design

Interior liner glaze mixing

16 July: Saturday                     Door Stacking Methods                           GCAC

9am-12 pm                  kiln door stacking with alternative door stack for woodfire/prefire
Burner placement
Informal wrap-up of kiln build experience over lunch.

1pm-4pm                     Half-day EXCURSION to visit Pejaten village and their hundreds of wood-firing tile kilns.
